Silicon Optical Window Overview

Silicon Optical Windows are precision optical components designed to transmit infrared wavelengths while protecting internal optical systems in infrared imaging, thermal sensing and optical measurement applications.

Manufactured from high-quality silicon optical substrates with useful infrared transmission characteristics, high thermal stability and mechanical strength, silicon optical windows provide reliable IR performance, low optical distortion and stable environmental performance. The commonly used transmission region is approximately 1.2–7 μm, with silicon used primarily in the 3–5 μm MWIR band. Some references extend the nominal material range toward 15 μm, but CZ silicon has an absorption feature near 9 μm; FZ or high-resistivity FZ silicon must therefore be evaluated for specialized longer-wavelength or THz requirements. Typical applications include MWIR thermal cameras, infrared sensors, remote sensing equipment, filter substrates and scientific instruments.

Chenyu Optics supports custom silicon window manufacturing according to customer drawings, including custom diameter, thickness and coating design for prototype and repeat production.
