The right-angle mirror, is a prism with a reflective surface that reflects incident light by 90°.

They are typically made from high-quality glass substrates with enhanced reflective coatings, ensuring accurate beam steering in optical systems.

Unlike other common prisms, right angle mirrors achieve reflection through specialized coatings, offering greater design flexibility.

Substrate and coating of the mirror

The right-angle mirror is usually made of BK7. Also, K9 has the similar parameters compared with BK7.

The inclined side of this prism is coated with one of the following colors:

  • Enhanced aluminum coating: This coating consists of a multilayer dielectric coating on aluminum, aiming to optimize the reflection effect for specific wavelengths.
  • Protective silver: Recommended for visible light applications.
  • Protective gold: Suitable for applications dealing with the entire infrared spectrum range.

Key Features

  • 90° Beam Deflection: The right angle mirroe redirects light paths with high accuracy.
  • High Reflectivity: Achieving reflectance values above 95%, depending on coating.
  • Low Wavefront Distortion: The mirror maintains optical precision for imaging and laser applications.
  • Substrate Materials: Fused silica, BK7 glass, or other low-expansion materials.

Applications

Also, people can use the right angle prism in different situations.

Here are the following applications :

  • Laser Systems
  • Imaging & Microscopy
  • Optical Instruments
  • Industrial & Medical Equipment
  • Research & Aerospace
