Product Overview

Sapphire optical windows are transparent protective components used to separate optical systems from external environments while maintaining stable optical performance. Compared with ordinary optical glass, sapphire offers much higher hardness, excellent wear resistance and good transmission from the ultraviolet to mid-infrared range.

They are commonly used in infrared imaging systems, laser protection windows, high-temperature observation ports, industrial sensors, optical instruments and harsh-environment inspection systems. For engineering projects, window performance is influenced by material grade, orientation, thickness, surface quality, flatness, parallelism and coating design.

Chenyu Optics supports custom sapphire window manufacturing according to drawings or application requirements, including round, square, rectangular and special-shaped windows. We can also provide polishing, chamfering, edging, coating, inspection and clean packaging for prototype and batch production.

FAQ

What is the typical transmission range of sapphire optical windows?

Sapphire optical windows typically transmit from about 0.17 μm to 5.5 μm. Actual transmission depends on window thickness, surface condition, crystal quality and coating design.

Can you manufacture sapphire windows according to custom drawings?

Yes. Chenyu Optics can manufacture custom diameters, square or rectangular windows, special shapes, thicknesses, chamfers and edge treatments according to drawings or application requirements.

What surface quality and flatness can be provided?

Common options include 60-40, 40-20, 20-10 or higher surface quality, with flatness such as λ/2, λ/4 or λ/10 depending on the size and application.

What coating options are available for sapphire windows?

Uncoated sapphire windows, AR coating, broadband AR coating and custom coating designs can be provided based on the required wavelength range and operating environment.

How does sapphire compare with fused silica or BK7?

Sapphire is usually selected when high hardness, scratch resistance, thermal stability and harsh-environment durability are important. Fused silica or BK7 may be more suitable for lower-cost or less mechanically demanding optical systems.

What information should I provide for quotation?

Please provide material, size, thickness, surface quality, flatness, parallelism, coating requirements, quantity, drawing and application wavelength if available.
