What is a Calcium Fluoride Window?

The Calcium Fluoride (CaF₂) optical window  is an optical component widely used in infrared (IR) spectral regions.

With its excellent transmission from 180 nm to 8 μm, CaF₂ is an ideal material for optical windows that require high transmittance and low absorption.

Compared with other infrared materials such as germanium or silicon, calcium fluoride offers lower refractive index and better resistance to laser damage, making it highly suitable for precision optical applications.

Calcium fluoride (CaF₂) is suitable for infrared applications.

Chenyu can coat the planar windows of calcium fluoride (CaF₂) according to customer requirements.

 Key Advantages of CaF₂ Windows

  • High transmission: From 200 nm to about 7 μm
  • Suitable for different environments: At room temperature and 100% humidity, the CaF2 window will not fog up.
  • High Laser Damage Threshold: Suitable for high-power laser systems.
  • Excellent Hardness and Stability: Resistant to mechanical stress and thermal shock.
  • Low Dispersion: Ensures minimal chromatic aberration in imaging applications.

 Applications of Calcium Fluoride Windows

  • UV and IR Spectroscopy
  • Laser Systems
  • Thermal Imaging & Infrared Cameras
  • Astronomy & Aerospace
  • Medical & Scientific Instruments

CaF2 window

The high damage threshold and low ultraviolet absorption of calcium fluoride make uncoated CaF₂ windows a good choice for excimer laser optical devices.

Chenyu ensures that each of our CaF2 windows is precisely polished and has the high surface quality required for these precise laser applications.

Our quality inspection is top-notch, and we use the most advanced measuring equipment to check whether each window pane in our factory fully complies with all applicable standards.

We offer customized products. If you have any requirements, please feel free to contact us at any time.

We also have other types of windows available for your choice.

How to clean CaF2 window?
Do not rub with hard cloth or tissues directly. Use isopropyl alcohol / acetone. Use a dust-free cloth. CaF₂ is insoluble in water, but prolonged exposure to water or a humid environment may cause surface corrosion or residue contamination.
Is CaF2 corrosive?
Calcium Fluoride (CaF₂) itself is not considered corrosive under normal conditions.
