The optical prism is a transparent optical element with polished flat surfaces that refract or reflect light. Made from high-quality optical materials such as BK7 glass, fused silica, sapphire, or calcium fluoride, prisms are designed to control the path of light beams. They can change the direction of propagation, invert or rotate images, or disperse light into its spectral components.
